That’s amazing. Thanks. I’d like to get a sense of how close together these are. It almost looks like they were pushed overboard. I’ve got to run, but I’ll look at this more closely later.

That is stunningly beautiful. I’m terrified of being underwater in any body of water that isn’t a swimming pool, or that has rusty “ghost-things”(ships, shipwrecks, ect.), but the WW2 history buff in me would love to see that in person.

I want to see a C46 in person one of these days, and I kind of want to explore a wreck, but I don’t know about combining the two.

It’s amusing that the Corsair found a way to nose-stand this whole time. Deep currents must be well-nigh nil near the Marshalls.

For some reason I was thinking “Skytrain”, but that’s a C47. I’ve seen tons of those, but I don’t recall ever seeing a C46 before at any of the airshows I’ve been to in recent years.

I have a list of wrecks I’d love to see in person if I had unlimited monies:

Bismarck

Kinja'd!!!

Yamato

Kinja'd!!!

Saratoga

Kinja'd!!!

Yorktown

Kinja'd!!!

There’s so many more; but notice that Titanic isn’t on the list, that shit scares me to death!

My great-grandfather served on the Saratoga. If I’m remembering things right he was on board for the battle of Iwo, and got tossed against a sink in one of the heads during an attack - leading to back damage and pain that later masked cancer. This was after he was a chaplain in the Navy operation at Port Chicago (american Indian ancestry leaving the “colored or not colored” question very waffley).

Faily Bail indeed. They identify this as a TBM Avenger. It’s clearly an SBD Dauntless.

And one more thought. It’s interesting to compare the attitudes about these planes back then versus today. Back in 1945, they were just so much surplus military hardware. Today, they are cherished bits of history. I cringe when I think of all the B-29s that were chopped up and melted down, but to the people of those days they were just big hunks of aluminum that was needed for the new jets. I wonder if any of these are salvageable. I’ve seen worse pulled from lake bottoms and restored.
